Noel Whelan says Derby County not a threat to Leeds United

Leeds United are above Derby County in the Championship table at the moment.

Noel Whelan has suggested on BBC Radio Leeds that Derby County are not going to challenge Leeds United for the automatic promotion places.

Leeds are third in the Championship table at the moment with 61 points from 32 matches, while Derby currently find themselves seventh in the standings with 51 points from 31 games.

Former Leeds and Derby striker Whelan does not think that Frank Lampard’s side will pose a threat to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds: “I don’t think Derby are a problem to Leeds. I don’t think they are going to be a problem, I really don’t.”

Promotion challenge

Leeds are aiming for automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season, and given how they have performed so far this campaign, the Elland Road faithful will be expecting the team to maintain their form.

Derby are also in the running for promotion, but Frank Lampard’s side are aiming for playoff spots.

Given that the Rams are 10 points behind Leeds, it is hard to see them catch up to Leeds.

While Leeds will take on Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, Derby will face Millwall at the Pride Park Stadium in league on Wednesday evening.
