Leeds United have lost to Newport County in the third round of the FA Cup.
Leeds United have suffered an embarrassing exit from the FA Cup, losing to League Two outfit Newport County away from home this afternoon.
The Championship club headed into the third-round tie as favourites and were expected to win.
The West Yorkshire outfit took the lead at Rodney Parade after just nine minutes when Gaetano Berardi put them ahead.
An own goal from Conor Shaughnessy saw Newport equalise on 76 minutes, and Shawn McCoulsky made it 2-1 on 89 minutes.
Leeds ended the game with 10 men due to the dismissal of Samuel Saiz in the first minute of injury time.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he told BBC Radio Leeds at full time: “I don’t think the word disgraceful would be too bad a word to use right now. Terrible, terrible.”
Whelan added: “It’s a disgraceful result for Leeds United as a club.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Rodney Parade on Sunday afternoon, hosts Newport had 50% of the possession, took 19 shots of which five were on target, and earned eight corners, according to BBC Sport.
