Leeds United have maintained their chances of finishing in the top two of the Championship table this season with a narrow win against Swansea City.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have got the better of Swansea 1-0 away from home at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.
Pablo Hernandez’s goal in the 89th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides in Wales.
The result means that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 84 points from 43 matches.
Leeds are three points ahead of second-placed West Bromwich Albion and six points clear of third-placed Brentford.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and he has given his take on the win for the Whites, and has praised Hernandez.
Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds at full time (3:31pm, Sunday July 12, 2020): “Absolutely massive win today. I thought the win in midweek was big, but after the results and the way they went yesterday, the two points dropped by West Brom, I felt that if we got a win here today, that would go a long, long way to putting us back in the Premier League, and what a second-half performance.
“Substitutions made a massive difference yet again, and if there is only one person I can talk about, that is Pablo Hernandez. He is just a magician out there, isn’t he?”
Inching towards the Premier League
The win against Swansea means that Leeds are a step closer to clinching automatic promotion to the Premier League.
The Whites have been arguably the best team in the Championship this season, and there is no surprise that they are so close to getting back to the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004.
