Paul Heckingbottom’s Leeds United have won against Barnsley in the Championship this afternoon.
Leeds United returned to winning ways in the Championship this afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Barnsley at home.
The Whites headed into the match against Barnsley at Elland Road on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the league.
Tom Pearce put Leeds in the lead in the 17th minute, but Paudie O’Connor scored an own goal as it became 1-1 on 36 minutes.
The home team, though, picked up all three points from the encounter, as Ezgjan Alioski scored five minutes into the second half.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he was pleased with the win and with the performance of 21-year-old goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds at full time (4:55pm, Saturday, April 21, 2018): It’s a good win. It’s a Yorkshire derby win. Yes, it was not convincing at times.”
“We keep saying week in week out, don’t we, that he has been a breath of fresh air in that position,” Whelan added about Peacock-Farrell. “He has come in, he has really claimed it.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Leeds had 55% of the possession, took 15 shots of which three were on target, and earned five corners, according to BBC Sport.
Visitors Barnsley had 45% of the possession, took 11 shots of which three were on target, and earned nine corners, according to BBC Sport.
