Leeds United’s disappointing run of form in the Championship continued on Saturday afternoon, as they failed to win against Sunderland at Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit played out a 1-1 draw with Sunderland at home in the league.

After a goalless first half, the Black Cats went ahead just three minutes into the second half when Paddy McNair found the net.

Leeds restored parity on 72 minutes when Pablo Hernandez restored parity, although the home team ended the Championship game with 10 men due to the dismissal of Gaetano Berardi late on.

The performance of Leeds against a side who are likely to end up in League One next season was hugely disappointing.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side headed into the match against Chris Coleman’s Sunderland as favourites, and their performance must have left the Elland Road faithful disappointed.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and he was disappointed with the display produced by the Whites.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds at full time (4:58pm, Saturday, April 7, 2018): “We gave them that goal, we gave them that confidence, we gave them that belief, we gave them that goal to hang onto, and in the end, we rescued a point, we rescued a point. Simple as that. We were under the cosh. We have got to be winning these games.”
