Leeds United have failed to build on their win against Derby County, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost 2-1 to Stoke City this afternoon.
The Whites headed into the Championship game at the bet365 Stadium on the back of a 2-0 victory over Derby at Elland Road.
Stoke, who got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, have been struggling in recent weeks, but against the Whites they stepped up their game.
Sam Clucas put the home team in the lead four minutes into the second half, and Joe Allen made it 2-0 on 88 minutes.
Ezgjan Alioski halved the deficit for the visiting team in injury time.
Leeds ended the game with 10 men due to the dismissal of Sweden international defender Pontus Jansson on 76 minutes.
The defeat means that the Whites are now at the top of the Championship table with 54 points from 28 matches, a point clear of second-placed Norwich City.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he has given his take on the performance of the West Yorkshire outfit.
Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds at full time on Saturday afternoon (4:55pm, January 19, 2019): “They couldn’t solve the problem which was how to get behind or hurt Stoke City defensively. They were very organised, the distances between each other was pretty much bang on perfect.”
