Leeds United suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, as they went down 1-0 to Millwall away from home in the Championship.
The West Yorkshire outfit headed into the match against Millwall at The Den high on confidence and on the back of a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City at Elland Road in the league.
Millwall are not easy to win against at home, but many Leeds fans will have expected the team to pick up at least a point from the game.
Thomas Christiansen’s side, though, went down 1-0, with Aiden O’Brien’s goal in the 73rd minute proving to be the difference between the two teams.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he told BBC Radio Leeds just after full time (4:55pm): “I think a lot of the players new to this league will have found out that you cannot always play a pretty game of football. Sometimes you have got to have that heart and endeavour and win your 50-50 battles.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at The Den on Saturday afternoon, hosts Millwall had 45% of the possession, took 20 shots of which six were on target, and earned 14 corners, according to BBC Sport.
Visitors Leeds had 55% of the possession, took just one shot which was not on target, and earned two corners, according to BBC Sport.
