Leeds United have suffered a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this evening.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side headed into the match against Chelsea in London on the back of a 1-0 victory over Everton in the league.
The Whites will have been confident of winning the match and took the lead after just four minutes when Patrick Bamford slotted the ball home following a great pass from Kalvin Phillips.
However, Olivier Giroud restored parity for Frank Lampard’s side in the 27th minute, and then on 61 minutes, Kurt Zouma made it 2-1 to the home team.
Christian Pulisic wrapped up the scoring for Chelsea in injury time when he scored his side’s third goal.
Noel Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and the former Leeds striker has given his take on the final result.
Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds (9:54pm, December 5, 2020): “I thought Leeds played exceptionally well in the first half, but in the second half, we were not really at the races. Defensively they were a lot sounder, a lot stronger, they looked a lot fitter, they were more organised.”
Encouraging performance
Leeds were very much in the game in the first half, as they created problems for Chelsea.
However, the Blues stepped up their game in the second period, and their quality came through.
Leeds still made Chelsea work hard in the second half, and although the Blues will feel that they have deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter, the visiting team will be pleased with their own overall performance.
