Noel Whelan reacts to Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Hull

Leeds United endured a frustrating evening as their winless run in the Championship continued.

Leeds United’s winless run in the Championship continued on Tuesday night as they could only draw 0-0 with Hull City at the KCOM Stadium in a game that saw few chances created by the away side.

Thomas Christiansen’s men went into the clash with the Tigers off the back of a run of four defeats in their last five games in the Championship which had seen them fall well adrift of the top six in the table.

And much like their 1-0 win over Hull at Elland Road back in December, Leeds had to endure a fairly frustrating evening as a game of little quality ended in a disappointing stalemate that sees the Whites drop to 10th and keeps Hull outside the bottom three on goal difference.

Felix Wiedwald was easily the busier of the two goalkeepers and he made a number of important saves to keep the visitors in the game, while Leeds struggled to test Allan McGregor – whose mistake in the previous meeting led to the game’s only goal.

This time however, there was no moment of real brilliance to separate the two sides. And after the game, Noel Whelan provided his thoughts to BBC Radio Leeds on the disappointing result for Leeds.

“I think when you’re looking at the chances and the saves that Wiedwald’s made, then yeah probably lucky,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I don’t think we did enough to win the game, I’ll tell you that and we certainly didn’t bring the quality to create too many chances, so all in all I guess, a point’s not a bad result with not playing great football or [being] at the top of the game.”

Leeds return to action and Elland Road this Saturday as they host fellow promotion chasers Cardiff City looking to avenge the disappointing defeat that they suffered in Wales earlier in the campaign.
