Noel Whelan reacts to 4-1 Leeds United defeat

Leeds United lost against Cardiff City at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday.

Leeds United’s disappointing run of form continued on Saturday afternoon, as they lost 4-1 to Cardiff City at home in the Championship.

Cardiff are flying high in the Championship at the moment, and winning against the Bluebirds even at Elland Road was going to be tough for the Whites.

The Welsh outfit were the better team from start to finish and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.

Leeds also played the entire second half with 10 men due to the sending-off of Gaetano Berardi in the fourth minute of injury time in the first period.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he was disappointed with the overall performance of Thomas Christiansen’s side.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds at full time (5pm, Saturday, February 3, 2018): “We saw a lot of things today that just aren’t right. You can’t go out with that sort of attitude.”

“We were outmuscled, outfought,” added Whelan. “They had too much hunger and desire for the game, and we couldn’t match them. And that’s disappointing and saddens me.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hosts Leeds had 63% of the possession, took eight shots of which four were on target, and earned five corners, according to BBC Sport.

The defeat to Cardiff means that Leeds are now 10th in the Championship table with 44 points from 30 matches, seven points behind sixth-placed Bristol City.
