Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has given his reaction to Garry Monk’s shock resignation.
Monk asked Leeds not to invoke an option to extend his deal by one year, the club’s official website detailed, and resigned having refused to commit to a long term deal.

The head coach presided over a superb season which was let down by a poor final month which saw the Whites slip out of the play-offs.
Even so, finishing seventh and even challenging for the play-offs was a big improvement on recent seasons, with Leeds securing their best league finish since 2010.
Whelan, a co-commentator and pundit for BBC Radio Leeds, commented on Twitter to lament Monk’s departure, but also said it was important to try and stay upbeat.
