Noel Whelan has taken to Twitter to react after Kalvin Phillips was named in the England squad for EURO 2020.
The 25-year-old is the only player from Marcelo Bielsa’s side who has been called up by Gareth Southgate.
By the sounds of it, Whelan is delighted.
You can see what the ex-Leeds man wrote on Twitter below.
It’s incredibly exciting to see a Leeds player involved in a major international tournament – who would’ve dreamt this a few years ago?
Interestingly, Leeds have as many players in the squad as Tottenham, which shows just how far the Yorkshire-based outfit have come.

However, there perhaps should’ve been even more of Bielsa’s men involved.
Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison are very unlucky
Both Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison enjoyed phenomenal seasons, and recorded numbers that were up there with England’s best.
In Bamford’s case, only Bruno Fernandes, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane scored more goals than his 17 Premier League strikes.

Furthermore, Harrison scored eight goals and recorded eight assists, which is simply brilliant.
Hopefully, they can kick on and get even better next season – if they do, Southgate simply won’t be able to ignore them.
