Noel Whelan has spoken highly of Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla on BBC Radio Leeds.

The former Leeds striker has been impressed with the performances of Casilla following his move to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper has established himself as the first choice between the posts, and has been a figure of calm and assuredness behind the back-four.

Whelan has been impressed with the 32-year-old former Espanyol goalkeeper, who told Marca back in January 2019 that Leeds director of football Victor Orta was crucial in his decision to join the Championship club (click here to read more).

Whelan said about Casilla on BBC Radio Leeds: “I think everyone is benefitting from a real experienced goalkeeper, someone who has got no fear.

“He seems to have pretty much every attribute that you would like from a goalkeeper, and he is pretty too. He has got everything.”

Solid signing

Bailey Peacock-Farrell made a few costly mistakes in the first half of the season, and Casilla’s arrival has made Leeds stronger at the back.

The 32-year-old’s confidence and calmness under pressure is transmitting to his teammates, who must be delighted to have such an experienced and quality goalkeeper in the team.

Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 70 points from 36 matches, just two points behind leaders Norwich City.
