Leeds United won against Newport County at Elland Road in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening.

Leeds United have progressed to the third round of the EFL Cup courtesy of a comfortable victory over Newport County at home on Tuesday evening.
The West Yorkshire outfit headed into the second-round tie at Elland Road as favourites, but they fell behind to the League Two outfit after 33 minutes when Joss Labadie put the visiting team ahead.

The Whites, though, staged a successful comeback and won the tie 5-1, with Kemar Roofe scoring a hat-trick.
The performance of Thomas Christiansen’s side in the second half was stunning, but Leeds’s display in the opening 30 or so minutes of the tie was not great and left much to be desired.

One player who did play well for the Whites in the first half – and throughout the 90 minutes – was Luke Ayling, and former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was impressed with the performance of the 25-year-old right-back.
Ayling, who can also operate as a defensive midfielder, joined Leeds from Bristol City in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by both ITV and Bristol247.com to be worth £750,000.
“He was trying to inject a bit of pace into the game and lead by example by wearing the captain’s armband,” Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds about Ayling’s performance in the first half on Tuesday evening during their post-match coverage of the game between Leeds and Newport.
