Noel Whelan has given his take on BBC Radio Leeds on the good form of Leeds United star Kemar Roofe so far this season.

Roofe, who can operate as a striker or as a winger, has scored three goals and provided one assist in three Championship appearances for Leeds so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the 25-year-old found the net 11 times and provided three assists in 27 Championship starts for the West Yorkshire outfit, according to WhoScored.

Former Leeds striker Whelan has outlined two reasons why Roofe – who has been on the books of Leeds since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Oxford United for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £3 million – is in great form at the moment – the way he finished last season and the signing of Patrick Bamford.

Leeds signed 24-year-old former Nottingham Forest forward Bamford from Championship rivals Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Northern Echo to be worth £7 million.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds about Roofe’s current form: “I think the way he finished last season has probably given him a lot of confidence.

“Finishing top scorer at any football club, let alone Leeds United, gives you a sense of belief and makes you a better player, a stronger player and character for the next season because there is a bit of responsibility on you, because you are the main goalscorer.

“And I also think because he has got Patrick Bamford nipping at his heels as well. He is under pressure. He has got to score goals.

“He has got to take these chances when they come his way because you have got a player there that you just spent £7m for nipping at your heels. So any bad performance could be your last performance.”
