Pierre-Michel Lasogga began life at Leeds United by scoring twice against Burton Albion.
Noel Whelan has told BBC Radio Leeds that he thought that Pierre-Michel Lasogga was fantastic on his Leeds United debut, and praised the loanee’s intelligence.
The Whites kicked off life after the international break by storming to a stunning 5-0 victory over Burton Albion – and while virtually every player would have probably been delighted with their performance at Elland Road, one of Thomas Christiansen’s men arguably stole the majority of the headlines.
Lasogga – who joined on a season-long loan from Hamburg on transfer deadline day – scored twice in his first appearance for the club, and Whelan could not help but laud what he saw from the 25-year-old.
“The first finish I thought was excellent on the stretch, on the run, lovely weighted ball, but it’s so important because it takes a bit of pressure off the strikers when you know goals can come from other areas.
“He’s big, strong, he’s good in the air, he holds the ball up, he brings people into play but he’s intelligent. Some of the touches that he did, one touch over the top to Kalvin Phillips running on, one touch link up play, it’s fantastic, and it just shows the intelligence of the man, not just as he has the stature but he’s got the brain to go with it,” he would later add.
The variety that Lasogga showed during his debut is arguably one of the most encouraging aspects of his performance, as it suggests that it could potentially prove difficult for opposition teams to work out how the German is most likely to hurt them.
And while it is only one performance under his belt, the early signs certainly suggest that he could prove to be yet another inspired signing made by the club over the summer.
