Mateusz Klich was in action for Leeds United against Middlesbrough on Friday.
Klich started for Leeds in their Championship game against Middlesbrough at Elland Road and played for the entire 90 minutes, as it ended in a goalless draw.
Former Leeds striker Whelen was pleased with the display produced by the 28-year-old midfielder, and has been impressed with how the Poland international has performed so far this campaign.
Whelen told BBC Radio Leeds about Klich: “He is very forward-thinking. It’s like he has got a new lease of life. He is loving his football here, really enjoying it, and he is one of our best players that we have got out there.
“He retains the ball, he looks after the ball, and then works the ball across the field. He is always available. I am really liking the way he is playing this season. We have got a real player in him.”
Turnaround in form
Klich has been playing well for Leeds so far this season and has established himself as an important figure in Bielsa’s team.
The 28-year-old midfielder has scored three goals and provided one assist in six Championship appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Klich joined Leeds from Dutch side FC Twente in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £1.5 million.
The Poland international struggled to make an impact at Elland Road last season and played just 131 minutes of Championship football – according to WhoScored – before joining FC Utrecht on loan in the January transfer window.
