Noel Whelan is reacting on Twitter to Leeds United’s victory last night.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side marched into the third round of the EFL Cup with a 3-0 win over League One side Crewe Alexandra.
But despite Leeds being a Premier League side, and the game being at Elland Road, the hosts didn’t have it easy.
In fact, the visitors were only 15 minutes away from a penalty shootout, but three late goals – one from Kalvin Phillips and a brace from Jack Harrison – saw the cream rise to the top in ruthless fashion.
Here’s how former Leeds hitman Whelan reacted on Twitter:
Morale boost
This was Leeds’ first win of the season in any competition and hopefully it provides a morale boost that Bielsa’s troops can carry into the Premier League.
The Whites were thumped by Manchester United in their opening game, losing 5-1, before drawing 2-2 with Everton in West Yorkshire last weekend.
In the league, there hasn’t been much encouragement that Leeds can avoid the pitfalls that teams often encounter during their second season back in the big time.
Then again, there’s only been two games – and one of them was a trip to Old Trafford, where they were also hammered last season.
One thing that was clear about these players during the 2020-21 campaign is that they’re willing to do whatever Bielsa asks and no doubt their form will pick up.
Next up for them is a trip to Burnley on Sunday in their last game before the international break.
