Kemar Roofe has impressed for Leeds United lately.

Noel Whelan has claimed on BBC Radio Leeds that he is delighted for Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe.

The 24-year-old strengthened his argument as a number nine by scoring the winner in Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Burton Albion, coolly slotting past Stephen Bywater in a one-on-one.

Roofe has been Leeds’ main striker in recent weeks due to injuries to Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Caleb Ekuban and that was his fourth goal in his last four Championship games.

The former Oxford United man, who joined the Whites £3 million under Garry Monk 18 months ago (BBC Sport), has spent much of his career in West Yorkshire stuck out on the left wing.

But former Leeds hitman Whelan says he is “really pleased” for the ex-West Brom youth as he continues to impress in his favoured role.

“Really pleased for him because he worked the line really well, he was trying to hold the ball up against two very physical centre-halves,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

Kemar Roofe of Leeds is tackled by Julien De Sart of Derby during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on January 13, 2017 in Leeds, England.

“He never stopped working or believing. In the end it came down to the one critical moment and that’s the one-on-one moment and he came out on top.”

Lasogga is fit again, having been missing since November 4, but he didn’t do much in his cameos against Hull or Burton to suggest that he deserves to displace Roofe as Thomas Christiansen’s first-choice number nine.

The Elland Road club visit out-of-form Birmingham City on Saturday and surely Roofe will continue to spearhead their attack.
