Noel Whelan has reacted to Leeds United’s disappointing result away to Cardiff City today.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side slumped to a demoralising 2-0 defeat in Wales on their return to the Championship.
Leeds had a seven-point lead in the automatic promotion places before this round of fixtures began, but fortunately that remains the case after Fulham and their rivals also dropped points.
Goals in both halves from Junior Hoilett and Robert Glatzel consigned the Whites to defeat, though both goals looked very avoidable.
Here’s how Whelan reacted at full-time:
He told BBC Radio Leeds: “Not the result we were hoping for. It was a great opportunity. You look at the goals conceded, the mistakes we made and you can’t do that at any level. It looks like we didn’t believe we were going to score and we didn’t believe we were going to score.”
You hope for Leeds’ sake that they don’t regret this.
It’s a division of such fine margins and victory today would’ve given them a 10-point cushion in the top two with eight games left.
Instead, the Whites players are going to make their legion of fans a bit more anxious.
It’s a huge game next Saturday as Fulham visit Elland Road and it’ll be fascinating to see how the Leeds players react without their 12th man in the form of the support.
