Leeds struck late to edge past Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has hailed Stuart Dallas on BBC Radio Leeds after the winger’s superb goal set the Whites on their way to victory on Wednesday night.

Leeds struck late on thanks to Pontus Jansson’s header to seal a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

That came after Dallas had previously given the visitors the lead with a stunning half-volley, before Elliot Bennett’s long-ranger deceived Robert Green to equalise.

However, Jansson came up big in the dying minutes to snatch all three points for Garry Monk’s side, a result which keeps their challenge for automatic promotion going.

After the match, Whelan singled out Dallas’ performance as one of the most pleasing aspects of the evening and suggested that the Northern Ireland international must surely keep his place in the starting XI after his strike.

Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds: “Dallas is doing enough and has probably done enough to keep his place. His workrate when going forward, his positivity – he’s been so impressive.

“His goal tonight was just as impressive as [Souleymane] Doukara’s now famous one. When you see the quality in his locker, you do wonder why he’s not scoring more of them.

“Saying that, [Chris] Wood wouldn’t be scoring without the assists, and they’re coming from the likes of [Kemar] Roofe and Dallas. But it has been refreshing to see different names on the scoresheet tonight.”

It will certainly have been a huge boost for Whites fans to see Dallas contribute so spectacularly and decisively.

That was the winger’s first Championship goal of a season during which he has occasionally struggled, and supporters will be hoping it sparks a return to the kind of form they came to expect from the star last season.
