Facing a QPR side who have suffered seven straight defeats, Leeds lost 1-0.
Leeds played well in the first half, but did not take their chances. After conceding early in the second, they could not recover.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan is pinning their loss on not signing a striker in January.
Top scorer Kemar Roofe suffered an injury earlier this month.
Whelan says Leeds should have bought in January, and points to promotion rivals Sheffield United.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: “The loss will be very damaging. This is not good QPR side. The game was comfortably in our grasp.
“I look at the transfer window. Goals win you games. Did we get a striker, no we didn’t? Other people went out and got a striker. We’ve got one striker.
“Whats our options? Winger, defender. Where’s our option to come on and win you games? Where’s our striker? We’ve not got it.”
“You know what Sheffield United have got? Strikers, and they went out and got more in January.”
Sheffield United signed Scott Hogan on loan from Aston Villa in January, an exciting addition to their squad.
The Blades are now in second place in the Championship, with Leeds having slipped to third.
