Leeds United suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend. The West Yorkshire outfit went down 1-0 to Millwall away from home at The Den in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The performance of the Whites against the Lions left much to be desired and was arguably their worst display of the season. There is no doubt that Millwall deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.

One of the Leeds player who failed to play well against Millwall was Vurnon Anita. The 28-year-old, who can operate as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was following the match, and he has pointed out why Anita failed to play well for Leeds – due to the performance of 23-year-old Millwall man Jed Wallace, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder and who started the game and played for 90 minutes.

“He is just a good player,” Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds during their post-match coverage of Leeds’s defeat to Millwall on Saturday afternoon (5:12pm, September 16, 2017) when asked why Anita struggled against Wallace.

“He is just a good player with loads of pace and ability, and from the word go, he was always a problem down that right-hand side.”

Whelan also gave his opinion on the performance of Conor Shaughnessy for Leeds and said: “I thought he did okay, I really did.”
