Leeds United made a shock announcement yesterday, when Thomas Christiansen was given the job at Elland Road.
Noel Whelan has admitted that Leeds United’s managerial appointment of Thomas Christiansen has taken him by surprise, but he has called for the supporters at Elland Road to get behind the 44-year-old manager.
Christiansen was announced as Leeds boss yesterday, to a mixed reaction from supporters of the Yorkshire club.
Christiansen was a totally left-field appointment from Andrea Radrizzani, with very little known about the former Barcelona striker in England.

Christiansen’s only managerial experience has come in Cyprus, with his most recent job coming with APOEL.
Christiansen guided the Cypriot side to the Europa League knockout stages last season, in the finest achievement of his managerial career to date.
And Whelan is hoping that Christiansen can have a positive time at Leeds, despite the doubts surrounding his arrival.
Leeds finished in seventh place in the Championship table last term, and Christiansen will be under pressure to take the Whites one step further next season.
