Luke Ayling hasn’t been consistent for Leeds United this season.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Noel Whelan has lept to the defence of under-fire Leeds United defender Luke Ayling.
The 26-year-old has come in for a bit of criticism from Leeds fans in recent weeks and did his case no favours at all with an erratic performance in Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat at Molineux.
The former Bristol City right-back and centre-half Pontus Jansson were largely responsible for at least one of the goals that the Whites conceded in midweek – the third one which made it 3-1 and effectively killed United’s chances of getting anything from the game.

Ayling was superb last season under Garry Monk and enjoyed a strong start to this campaign but his form has, for whatever reason, nosedived a little it has to be said.
While co-hosting on BBC Radio Leeds, one Leeds fan texted in to claim that Ayling and Jansson needed to be dropped, prompting a insightful defence from Whelan.
He said: “With Ayling, you gotta say look, he’s been so consistent. You’ve got to be due a couple of bad games and you can’t be playing 100% every week but he gives 100% and that’s the thing.”

Whelan is spot-on.
The former Arsenal youth has a brilliant attitude and although his form has dropped, his industry and heart can’t questioned and it should only be a matter of time before he starts enjoying a decent run of form again.
