Noel Whelan criticises Leeds’ Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s cameo at Villa

Pierre-Michel Lasogga failed to make an impact as Leeds United suffered yet another Championship defeat.

Noel Whelan has told BBC Radio Leeds that he has major concerns about Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s attitude and labelled his cameo appearance in Leeds’ defeat to Aston Villa a disgrace.

Paul Heckingbottom’s men suffered another defeat as their season continues to conclude in extremely underwhelming fashion. After one campaign’s respite, the Leeds fans are back to wishing the season would end several weeks before their 46th game.

Aston Villa claimed the three points with Lewis Grabban scoring the only goal during the first-half. Heckingbottom did try to change things around, with Samuel Saiz brought on at the break, Jay-Roy Grot coming on shortly after the hour-mark and Lasogga being introduced with 12 minutes left.

Unfortunately for the visitors, they could not find an equaliser and suffered their sixth defeat in their last nine. And after the game, Whelan was particularly annoyed with Lasogga’s apparent inability to use his strength.

“I question his attitude. He’s soft. He’s always been soft. He’s a big lump, but he’s a big softie. And that just proved it down there. That to me is a disgrace. You can’t win a ball, you’re being muscled out so fall to the ground,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

Based on his recent form, it would certainly be a considerable surprise if Leeds made any attempt to try and keep Lasogga on a permanent basis as the German has not scored a single goal since February, a run that now stretches nine games.

He has reached double figures for the season, Heckingbottom’s reluctance to hand him regular starts certainly hints that the Whites are planning for life without the 26-year-old ahead of next season.

And given Whelan’s assessment of his display against the Villans, it appears that Lasogga may not be expecting to be at Elland Road next term either.
