Noel Whelan comments on Samuel Saiz’s Leeds United future

Leeds United star Samuel Saiz is reportedly on the radar of Getafe.

Noel Whelan suggested on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (6:09pm, December 14, 2018) that Leeds United should retain the services of Samuel Saiz until the end of the season.

According to The Yorkshire Post, Getafe are interested in signing Saiz from Leeds in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that the La Liga outfit want to secure the services of the 27-year-old – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward – on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer thereafter.

The report has also claimed that Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa has given his approval to the move after becoming aware of Saiz’s desire to leave Elland Road.

Saiz is one of the best and most creative midfielders in the Championship and has been a key figure in the Leeds team since his move from Huesca in the summer of 2017.

Former Leeds striker Whelan has given his take on the situation, and he believes that the West Yorkshire outfit should keep hold of Saiz beyond January.

Whelan said on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (6:09pm, December 14, 2018) when asked if he would loan out Saiz: “At this particular time of the season, no. We need all the players.”

Whelan added: “To have that kind of player that can create chances, can have an influence on the game, how are we going to replace that?

“We are loaning him, we are not getting any money for him to spend in January to replace a player like that. So why not keep all assets that we have in the camp?”
