Noel Whelan comments on Luke Ayling replacing Stuart Dallas in Leeds team

Stuart Dallas has been playing well for Leeds United this season, while Luke Ayling is injured.

Noel Whelan has suggested on BBC Radio Leeds that Luke Ayling could struggle to get back into the Leeds United team.

The former Leeds striker believes that the form of Stuart Dallas makes it difficult for right-back Ayling to slot straight back into Marcelo Bielsa’s starting lineup when he is fully fit and available.

The 27-year-old, who can also operate as a central defender, missed all of pre-season with an ankle injury, although he is now back in training, as posted in a video on Leeds’s official Twitter page.

Dallas is a winger by trade, but the 28-year-old Northern Ireland international has been playing as a right-back and has done well in that role.

The former Brentford star was brilliant for Leeds at the weekend, as he scored in their 3-0 win against Stoke City away from home in the Championship.

Whelan believes that with the form that Dallas is in at the moment, Ayling has no chance of dislodging him from his place in the starting lineup.

Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds when asked if Ayling could regain his right-back spot when he is back fit: “With Stuart Dallas playing like this, no chance.”
