Noel Whelan has told West Yorkshire Sport Daily that he believes Leeds United will renew an interest in signing Swansea City’s Dan James this summer.

Leeds fans got a glimpse of the player they very nearly in signed January when the Swans lost 2-1 at Elland Road in midweek.

The 21-year-old showed flashes of his quality and was given a good reception by the Whites supporters.

James was ready to join Marcelo Bielsa’s side last month and was even at Leeds to be unveiled, before City pulled the plug at the 11th hour [The Telegraph].

But Whelan claims that ‘apparently’ there will be another attempt to finalise the deal this summer.

He told West Yorkshire Sport Daily: “Apparently. I think the interest is still there and that [negotiations] could start again after this season.”

James was substituted midway through the second half to cap an overall disappointing night in West Yorkshire, but there’ll be many more positives ones in the future if he completes his protracted transfer this summer.

United might well be a Premier League by then and that may have figured into James’s thinking over the move, but time will tell.
