Izzy Brown is scheduled to return for Leeds United early in the new year.
Noel Whelan has told BBC Radio Leeds that Izzy Brown will almost represent a new signing for Leeds United in January.
The 21-year-old joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
But Brown is recovering from a long-term knee injury, meaning that he has not yet kicked a ball under Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Bielsa confirmed to a news conference last week that the young midfielder is still around two months away from full fitness, claiming he’ll be able to ‘compete in the new year’.
“Izzy is a number 10. Hopefully [he will be fit in] January,” the former Leeds striker told BBC Radio Leeds.
“That will be like a new signing. So we won’t need to be looking for that central number 10 role. You will have a ready-made one, ready to come in.”
Given that he earns around £25,000 per week [Spotrac], Brown will be under pressure to perform for United when he is fit to do so.
It will be fascinating to see if Mateusz Klich can take his game to the next level, with the added competition of another number 10 coming into the fold.
The 28-year-old has been a revelation under Bielsa this season, scoring five and setting up five in 16 Championship games as Leeds sit top of the table.
