Kiko Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrell are the two main goalkeepers at Leeds United.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has struggled for playing time for Leeds United during the second half of the season.

The Northern Ireland international started the season as the first-choice goalkeeper and did well, but there were a few mistakes from the 22-year-old and his lack of experience showed at times.

Casilla joined Leeds in the January transfer window after leaving Spanish and European giants Real Madrid, and head coach Marcelo Bielsa instantly made the Spaniard the first-choice goalkeeper.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan believes that Casilla is the better goalkeeper and is deservedly the first choice at Elland Road at the moment.

Whelan said on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (6:41pm, April 26, 2019): “I think his (Casilla’s) distribution has been fantastic. I think he has made some crucial saves, I think he comes and commands his box a little bit more than Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

“Bailey is still learning his trade. I know that a cliche here because he has played first team, who has dropped out of the first-team position when we were top of the league, so he has got every argument to be asking the manager why, but there’s a player that has come from Real Madrid. He has not come from Real Madrid to sit on the bench.”

Promotion challenge

Norwich City have clinched automatic promotion to the Premier League, while Sheffield United look set to finish in the top two of the Championship.

This means that Leeds will finish in the playoffs, and it is going to be hard for the West Yorkshire outfit to win promotion via those route.
