Leeds United have taken a huge step towards promotion to the Premier League this evening with their win against Derby County.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have got the better of Derby 1-0 away from home at the Pride Park Stadium in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final tie.
After a goalless first half, Kemar Roofe put Leeds in the lead in the 55th minute, and the score stayed that until the end of the match.
This means that it is advantage to the West Yorkshire outfit, as they will be determined to get the job done in the second leg at Elland Road.
Noel Whelan was following the match for BBC Radio Leeds, and he has given his take on the win for the Whites.
Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds at full time on Saturday evening (7:09pm, May 11, 2019): “First part of the job done. Away from home, a fantastic win against a Derby side that didn’t offer too much apart from a spell in that second half where they got a little bit more space, a little bit more time, started dictating the game a little bit more, but I think nobody would begrudge Leeds United taking that 1-0 lead back into the second leg at Elland Road.”
Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, who started his career at Leeds, has also taken to Twitter to revel in the win.
