West Ham United defender Declan Rice has impressed on the international stage.

Rice made his senior debut for Republic of Ireland’s side last week, before dropping back down to under-21 level.
The West Ham defender helped Ireland’s youngsters pick up a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan.
But Ireland boss King was keen not to put too much pressure on Rice.

“It was a very difficult evening for Declan to come back,” King said.
“He is a terrific player and the expectation maybe that people had on him to be a Messi because of what he’s done. He acquitted himself excellently.”
Rice has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season at West Ham, with his reputation increasing both at club and international level.

The 19-year-old has been handed 18 Premier League appearances this term, with David Moyes showing great faith in him.
Rice could still have an important role to play over the remainder of the campaign, as West Ham look to avoid the drop.
The Hammers are next in action against Southampton, when Rice may be recalled to his side’s starting line-up.
