Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has told the Daily Mail who he feels is the best signing of the summer transfer window.
Many teams signed top-quality players. Arsenal brought in Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes, who have both hit the ground running. Tottenham signings Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Gareth Bale are proving brilliant additions too.
James Rodriguez, Allan and Doucoure at Everton, Callum Wilson at Newcastle, Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa and Hakim Ziyech at Chelsea are all brilliant shouts as well. But Richards has ignored all of them.
The former England defender has plumped for a new Liverpool player as the best signing – but it’s not Thiago Alcantara.
Richards said: “The fact Diogo Jota is now playing to such a level that Liverpool have deployed a front four tells you everything about his impact. Nobody was expecting this after his £41m move from Wolves.”
Is Jota the best signing of summer?
Jota’s transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Liverpool happened quickly with little excitement surrounding the move, especially after the Reds had already signed Thiago from Bayern Munich.

However, the Portuguese international has been superb. Jota has started six games for Liverpool so far and scored seven goals. That includes a brilliant hat-trick in the Champions League against Atalanta last week. And there’s a lot more to come.
Nobody expected Liverpool’s front three to have serious competition. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah have all been incredible for the Reds. However, Jota’s performances have forced Jurgen Klopp to change his system to include all four attackers.
Still only 23, Jota has plenty of time to become even better. Liverpool have a top-quality player on their hands, and he’s certainly among the best summer signings.
