Granit Xhaka has admitted that he did ‘wrong’ when he got sent off for Arsenal against Liverpool last week, as he told beIN SPORTS.
But the combative midfielder claimed that when things are going well for him ‘nobody speaks’, but when things go wrong, as they did against Liverpool, then ‘people start speaking’.
Xhaka was shown a straight red for his mistimed kick on Diogo Jota, and despite Arsenal being down to ten men for most of the match, they held their own and walked out of Anfield with a goalless draw.
Now, Arsenal have the chance to put Liverpool to bed in front of their own supporters and book their place in the final against Chelsea.
Of course, Xhaka will be serving a suspension, so it will be interesting to see who Mikel Arteta plays in his already-depleted midfield.
This is what Xhaka had to say about his red card and how he has never spoken to his manager about his sending offs – and there have been quite a few.
“I didn’t speak with him (Arteta) about the red card,” said Xhaka. “I never did this before with him as well.
“It’s something where I have to be careful myself, of course. But this is my game.
“I am the type of person and the type of player where I am a lot in 50-50 positions and where I like to risk as well.
“I know sometimes it’s wrong. But when it’s going well, nobody speaks about it. When it’s going worse, as it did against Liverpool, then people start to speak.”

It is a slight surprise that Arteta hasn’t spoken to Xhaka about any of his sending-offs because he has been given his marching orders on three occasions under his stewardship.
From day dot, it has been a clear problem in Xhaka’s game and it’s what makes him a marmite-like figure.
For some, they appreciate his all-out aggression and how he puts himself on the line for the team, no matter what.
Whilst others think it’s time Xhaka was sold and moved on, for the better of the player himself and the club.
But whilst those opinions divide the footballing airwaves, one thing that has remained constant is that the player is always picked by the man in the dugout, no matter who he is.
