Speaking on Stadium Astro’s YouTube channel, Heung-min Son has claimed that Toby Alderweireld’s passing is incredibly underrated.

The South Korean has quite clearly formed a fantastic partnership with Harry Kane this season, and he was asked whether or not there’s another player at the club he has a good connection with.

Son named the likes of Tanguy Ndombele as Moussa Sissoko as players who understand him well, but it was Alderweireld who he pointed out as an underrated passer of the ball.

“I think everyone does, but I think Tanguy Ndombele is understanding me very well. Moussa understands me really well. Toby, I think Toby is a bit, because he’s far away from me, nobody is talking about Toby’s passing, but Toby understands me really well,” Son said.

Defenders can often go under the radar for their passing ability due to the fact they rarely get assists.

Alderweireld is very good at retaining possession, and when a long diagonal pass to Son is on, he rarely misses his mark.

The Belgian is genuinely a very good passer, and while he’s no Harry Kane, Son still feels as though he’s formed a good connection with the centre-half.

Son is right, you rarely hear anyone talking about the £11.5m man’s passing, but perhaps that’s something pundits should keep more of an eye on.
