Former Tottenham striker and pundit Peter Crouch has slammed the lack of leaders on the pitch for the north London side on Saturday.

Writing in the Daily Mail, the BT Sport personality criticised how the Spurs squad handled Japhet Tanganga after the defender was sent off for two yellow cards against Palace.

The two incidents came within five minutes of each other as Tottenham were reduced to ten men.

And as we know, Spurs went on to lose 3-0 as Nuno Espirito Santo suffered his first defeat as manager of the north London club.

The nature of the performance has since drawn fierce criticism from both pundits and Tottenham fans.

Indeed, Crouch is one of these figures who has highlighted issues in Tottenham’s game against the Eagles. And the former England international believes that the team did poorly in trying to calm Tanganga down.

The ex-Liverpool star said: “I was working for BT Sport, sitting with Rio. And we noticed that nobody in a Tottenham shirt was telling him to calm down and take a breath.

“Where were the leaders when Spurs needed them? Is that different if the captain plays outfield?”

Whilst Tottenham sit pretty high in the Premier League standings with nine points, next week’s fixture against Chelsea will no doubt be a huge test for Nuno’s side. After all, the west London side are yet to lose a game this season.

And with other clubs in the division starting to pick up some form, Spurs will need to sort out their issues quick if they’re to avoid slipping further down the table.
