Chris Wilder has reacted to why Sean Dyche wasn’t talked about for the Tottenham job this summer, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The ex-Sheffield United boss joked ‘maybe on the shortlist for Tottenham were four managers with the same agency’.
When Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho towards the back end of April, many thought a new face would come in before the 2020/21 season ends, or at the very least, straight after it.
But it wasn’t meant to be as Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici’s managerial search dragged on and on.
Name after name was being touted, but not Burnley’s Dyche, who has a similar style to the man they actually appointed in Nuno Espirito Santo.
Wilder was asked about Dyche not being talked about for a bigger job and the 50-year-old’s name not coming up for the Spurs job this summer.
“Who knows what type of coach he is?” said Wilder. “He plays a certain way that’s incredibly effective – every year he is pulling out £130 million for that football club.
“Nobody at a top-six club knows what happens at a training ground at Burnley and knows what he would do if he got some more talent.
“Maybe that had something to do with the agent. Maybe on the shortlist for Tottenham was four managers with the same agency. I am going to get myself in trouble here.”

Five games in and Nuno is already feeling the heat, especially after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
Given that he wasn’t even first, second or even third choice, that’s going to go against him if things go wrong…and they are, so far.
Added with that, even when they were winning games, questions were being asked about the style of play.
And given that Jose Mourinho, a proven winner, was booted out for his results and lack of style then Nuno won’t last long if he can’t turn it around by Christmas.
