Freddie Ljungberg has stated that ‘nobody can catch’ Son Heung-min when the Tottenham forward is sprinting through on goal.

That was showcased on Wednesday night when Antonio Conte’s side took command of Group D by beating Frankfurt 3-2 in the Champions League.

Arsenal legend Ljungberg was full of praise for Son because he netted a valuable brace during the game and was dubbed a ‘great, great’ player by the Premier League Invincible.

Even though Son has had an indifferent campaign so far, when he has turned it on, it’s been in front of his own supporters in north London.

Leicester City were the victims last time out when he devastated them with a hat-trick from the bench and Everton, who visit the capital on Saturday, might just be his next victim.

Nonetheless, when talking about Son’s qualities and his recent goals in midweek, Ljungberg spoke highly of the 30-year-old, as he told CBS Sports’ Champions League Show (12/10/22 at 9:15 pm)

“It’s the right player you want to have that chance,” said Ljungberg. “It’s a counter. Kane gets it. He’s great at holding up the ball, then Son with the speed and composure to finish it.

“That pace that Son has, nobody can ever catch him on the break like that. Then Kane, he is one of the best penalty-takers in the game.

“Then look at Son, he (Hojbjerg) lifts it up with that cross, he (Son) waits and waits, then slashes it into the roof of the net. A class goal – it was on his left foot, his weaker foot, technically he’s a top-top notch player and he is a great, great player.”

Antonio Conte might be a defensive-minded coach, he might set up with more defensive players in the XI than the opposition, but he makes sure his front three tick like crazy.

Ever since he walked through the doors at Hotspur Way last November, Spurs have elevated under his stewardship, secured Champions League football again and have only lost two matches in all competitions this season.

Son has blown hot and cold during these past few months, but since Conte has been in the dugout, the South Korean star has played the best football of his career.

A certain Erling Haaland is running away with the Golden Boot award, but Son is still more than capable of hitting 20+ goals in the Premier League again.
