West Ham earned a 3-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday.
West Ham United captain Mark Noble has told the club’s official website that he was “buzzing” for Diafra Sakho after the attacker scored during a cameo role against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
Noble, 30, had opened the scoring himself for the east Londoners from the penalty spot before leaving the field due to a hamstring injury, being replaced by youngster Declan Rice.
Sakho came on in the 68th minute of the match, before rounding the game off by scoring West Ham’s third with five minutes still to player after Marko Arnautovic had doubled the Hammers’ lead.
Noble stated his delight for Sakho, who is now entering the final months of his contract at the London Stadium under manager David Moyes, with it yet to be seen if he will earn a new extension.
“I was really buzzing for Diaf. He’s sat and waited patiently, but he’s got his chance. Diaf loves scoring goals and to see him score, I’m so happy for him,” Noble said.
Sakho has made 14 appearances in the Premier League for West Ham this season, but all of those have come as substitute appearances. Still, the 27-year-old has proved prolific, scoring four times.
With Andy Carroll and Javier Hernandez yet to show their best this season, surely Sakho deserves a new contract at the London Stadium as he quickly develops a reputation as a super sub?
His current deal expires in the summer with Sakho’s future in doubt after previously admitting he wants to leave and nearly doing so in the summer. Now, though, Sakho could be given the chance to stay as he shines from the bench.
