Mohamed Salah has been speaking to Egyptian TV about the Ballon d’Or, and the £34m Liverpool man revealed he was “shocked” at the outcome.

What’s the story?

Well, back in November, Lionel Messi lifted a seventh Ballon d’Or as he beat the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to the coveted award.

However, Salah was nowhere to be seen in the final three, as he was bizarrely named seventh in the rankings – yes, seventh.

That was despite the fact Liverpool’s No.11 incredibly scored 31 goals in all competitions, while also providing six assists.

Speaking about the outcome, Goal quote Salah as saying: “It shocked me, but there’s nothing I can say. No one in the world expected that I would be seventh, but that’s what happened. There are no words to describe how I feel about people’s positive comments towards me.”

He’s not the only one who’s shocked by what happened – the Egypt international is far better than some players who finished above him.

With all due respect, Jorginho certainly didn’t deserve to finish third, despite winning EURO 2020 and the Champions League.

The Ballon d’Or is an individual award, and it could even be argued that he wasn’t Chelsea or Italy’s best player in either competition.

Mohamed Salah seems keen to put things right at Liverpool

You can tell Salah has a strong mindset, as he seems to get better after suffering a setback.

For example, after losing the 2018 Champions League final to Real Madrid, the 29-year-old scored 27 goals in the 2018/19 campaign to ensure Liverpool won it in 2019.

Also, after Liverpool finished third and failed to win silverware last term, Salah has responded in phenomenal fashion with 27 goals in 32 games this season, which is absolutely astonishing.

If he keeps this up and Liverpool go on to win the Premier League or Champions League, we can see him going from seventh to first in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings.
