Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after discovering what Željko Buvač is up to now, after leaving Anfield in April 2018.
What’s the story?
Well, the story of Buvač remains one of the biggest mysteries of Jürgen Klopp’s reign at Liverpool.
Buvač and Klopp worked alongside each other for 17 years, with the pair performing wonders at Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund and also Liverpool.
However, the Bosnian walked out on Klopp in 2018, and was replaced by Pep Lijnders after their relationship turned sour.
No official reason was given for the 60-year-old’s exit, but whatever happened seemed to upset Buvač significantly.
As quoted by Goal, Buvač revealed that he didn’t congratulate Klopp after he guided Liverpool to the Premier League title.
Tellingly, he admitted he was delighted “for Liverpool, the fans and the players” but there was no mention of Klopp.
Buvač – nicknamed The Brain – added that he was behind all of Klopp’s success, and the German is nothing more than a media mouthpiece with his coaches doing the bulk of the work.

Goal quote him as saying: “I did the coaching job, with the exception of the interviews. It felt like I’ve been the manager for all those 17 years. I had all the functions and tried to influence my team as much as I could to help them succeed, but I didn’t need that kind of attention.”
Whatever happened between Klopp and Buvač was clearly significant.
What is Željko Buvač doing now after leaving Liverpool?
It seems Liverpool completely cut Buvač from their memory, as there has been almost no mention of him since he left Merseyside.
Therefore, that is why supporters were so shocked to see that he has now extended his contract as Director of Football at Dynamo Moscow.
By the looks of it, some fans didn’t even know he had joined the Russian giants, let alone signed a contract extension!
One supporter noticed that Buvač’s contract ends in 2024, which is when Klopp’s terms at Anfield expire – they hinted that Liverpool will hire the Bosnian.

If that happened, we’re not sure Klopp would be too happy!
For now, let’s see what some other Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about the update on Buvač…
