Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to react after Sky Sports displayed an interesting graphic comparing Roma’s 2020/21 season to Tottenham’s.
Strangely, both sides experienced very, very similar campaigns.
As you can see from the graphic above, Tottenham and Roma both finished seventh after winning 18 league games.
They also drew eight games, and suffered 12 defeats each.
Eerily, the similarities continue. Tottenham and Roma both scored 68 goals, and amassed a total of 62 points.
The only difference shown on the graphic from Sky Sports was the fact that Paulo Fonseca’s Roma conceded 58 goals.
Under both José Mourinho and Ryan Mason, Tottenham conceded 45 Premier League goals.
One fan below described Fonseca as a ‘worse’ version of Mourinho after seeing the comparison.
Another supporter made a very valid point.
They argued that Fonseca could probably have overseen a better season with players like Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Gareth Bale at his disposal.

That is very true. Roma suffered a lot of injuries this season to key players, and Fonseca simply had to work with what he had.
In Mourinho’s case, he largely had all of Tottenham’s best players available, but could still only lead them to seventh.
Now, we can see why the graphic has alarmed some fans below.
When it’s laid out in black and white like this, supporters will probably feel they’re getting a carbon copy of Mourinho.

When Sky Sports produce graphics like this, fans want to know they’re getting a clear upgrade, instead of a sideways appointment.
Nevertheless, context is needed.
As aforesaid, Fonseca might thrive with the likes of Kane and Son, not to mention Tanguy Ndombele and Sergio Reguilon.
Let’s see what the Tottenham fans on Twitter have been saying about the graphic…
