Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to react after João Cancelo was handed a straight red card in the 10th minute against Brighton.
It was a slightly harsh decision, in our view.
You could see the wind take the ball away from Manchester City’s No.27, which allowed Danny Welbeck to march in ahead of him.
Cancelo had his eyes on the ball throughout the passage of play.
However, just at the last moment, he does put his arm around Welbeck’s arm, but only after the Brighton man barged into him.
While you could make an argument either way, the Manchester City fans below feel it was a woeful decision to dismiss Cancelo.
One described the red card as a ‘joke’ while another said it was a ‘ridiculous’ decision at the Amex Stadium.
It also played a massive part in Manchester City succumbing to just their sixth Premier League loss of the campaign.
Ultimately, it doesn’t mean much with the Citizens already champions of England.
However, perhaps Cancelo’s misjudgement will be in Pep Guardiola’s mind when he chooses his starting XI to play Chelsea in the Champions League final.
Hopefully, he hasn’t ruined his chances of facing the Blues in Portugal.
