Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Roma are trying to sign Douglas Luiz instead of Granit Xhaka.
Birmingham Live have claimed that with Arsenal and Roma at a deadlock regarding Xhaka swapping England for Italy, those in Rome have now seemingly set their sights on Luiz’s defensive talents.
It is said that Arsenal are holding out for around £17 million for Xhaka’s services, but a bid of just under £13 million has been rejected for the combative midfielder from the Gunners, according to BBC Sport.
Given that Villa paid Manchester City £15 million for Luiz (BBC Sport) two seasons ago, when he was an unknown figure, he had zero Premier League appearances and zero international caps.
Then, it would be a complete an utter shock if those in the Midlands wouldn’t want at least double for their number six given that he now has had two seasons of Premier League football under his belt and he is also a Brazil international.
From Villa’s perspective, they should see this as a positive because it’s Jose Mourinho, who is now in charge of Roma, seemingly trying to lure Luiz’s talents his way.
The trophy-laden coach knows and understands a defensive-minded player when he sees one, so Luiz must be doing a lot of things right to attract his interest.
It does seem as though if Roma and Arsenal can strike a deal for Xhaka then nothing more will come Luiz’s way.
But it will be interesting to see what road Mourinho and Co. will go down if this Xhaka saga does indeed blow up in smoke as the summer progresses.
Nonetheless, Arsenal fans just cannot see Roma getting their hands on Luiz as they just want this Xhaka deal over and done with:
