Kaveh Solhekol has told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports (02/08/21 at 7:15 pm) that there is ‘no way’ West Ham are going to pay £30 million for Jesse Lingard.

The Sky Sports reporter shared that there is a ‘10%’ chance that the Hammers will sign the attack-minded midfielder from Manchester United this summer.

The 28-year-old became an instant fan favourite at the London Stadium last season, during his brief loan spell, and now the Hammers faithful want him signed up on a permanent basis.

Wayne Rooney labelled him ‘fantastic’ in July and suggested to Sky Sports that he has a future at Old Trafford.

But this is where the bad news comes in for West Ham because Solhekol doesn’t think Lingard will be donning the Claret & Blue colours again.

“I think it’s looking unlikely at the moment,” said Solhekol. “I think there’s only about a 10% chance of it happening.

“I know it’s very difficult putting percentages on the possibility of a deal happening, and it could still happen. But, at the moment, it’s looking unlikely.

“But he is back at Manchester United now. He started their last two friendlies. He is in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans, at the moment.

“His contract runs out next summer. Man United value him at £30 million. There’s no way West Ham are going to pay that kind of money. I think there is still a possibility it may happen later on in the window.”

Well, this won’t please the West Ham faithful, who don’t see eye-to-eye with their owners as it is.

This is a great chance for those in the boardroom to build on the overachievement of David Moyes’ side out on that pitch.

Bulk up the squad, add first-team quality, bring back fan favourites and push the boat out for players who they wouldn’t normally be able to secure.

But instead, it might just go to waste if they continue down their current road because, with their European trips booked in, a difficult and physically draining season awaits those in East London.
