There’s a quiet confidence building at Stamford Bridge that Harry Kane will be wearing royal blue when 2021/22 kicks off, according to ESPN.
However, it’s fair to say that confidence isn’t shared by many Chelsea supporters.
Those bitter transfer sagas of yesteryear are still fresh in the mind and, after Chelsea tried to sign Luka Modric before snatching Willian from under Tottenham’s nose, you get the feeling Daniel Levy would rather tear out his molars with a pair of rusty tweezers than sell his captain to a London rival.
The report adds a “fractious” relationship still exists between Chelsea and Tottenham.
ESPN claims Chelsea are willing to offer Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and, yes, even Kepa Arrizabalaga as potential makeweights in an attempt to drive down Kane’s prohibitive £150 million price tag.
And, given Levy would make an elephant look absent-minded, we’re going to put our neck out here and suggest the Chelsea fans are probably on to something.
Now, if the Blues changed the offer of Abraham, Hudson-Odoi and Kepa for Reece James, N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy, that may be a different story…
