Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in horror after discovering that Paul Tierney will be in charge of VAR for the upcoming clash with Chelsea.
What’s the story?
Well, this is the last thing Liverpool fans wanted to hear after Tierney officiated their 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.
The 40-year-old will be on VAR duty for the Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday January 2nd, after incurring the wrath of Jürgen Klopp in north London.
After full-time, the German angrily marched up to Tierney, informing him that he doesn’t have an issue with any other Premier League referee except for him.
It came after Tierney showed Andy Robertson a straight red card for a swipe on Emerson Royal, but only booked Harry Kane for a studs-up lunge on the Scotland international.
In fairness, you can understand why Klopp was upset, and also why the Liverpool fans are now anxious about the meeting with Thomas Tuchel.
Liverpool must beat Chelsea

Obviously, Liverpool’s trip to west London is a massive game in the title race.
However, the importance of the fixture has ramped up after Chelsea’s disappointing run of results.
The Blues have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, and they now sit third in the Premier League – three points behind Liverpool.
Of course, Klopp and Pep Guardiola would rather be involved in a two-horse race than a three-horse race, so it’s imperative that Liverpool kill Chelsea off when they meet on January 2nd.

A win for the Reds could put the Blues out of the conversation.
If Klopp loses to Tuchel, then it would blow the entire title race wide open again, just as it’s starting to look like it might be a two-club affair.
For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Tierney…
