Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Sun claimed that the Gunners are closing in on the signing of Tiago Tomás from Sporting Lisbon.

The Sun state that Mikel Arteta and Edu watched Sporting Lisbon take on Benfica, in anticipation of the Europa League clash against the latter.

However, the pair came away impressed by the 18-year-old Tomás, who is now said to be nearing a move to the Emirates.

Edu is keen to speed up negotiations as he is desperate not to miss out on the teenage wonderkid.

Arsenal famously lost out on the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United, and they’re keen not to suffer a repeat of such disappointment.

Tomás has scored five goals in 25 games across all competitions this season.

That isn’t a groundbreaking tally – however, the 5 ft 9 in attacker is very much a potential star of the future.

Sporting Lisbon rate their prospect so highly that they slapped a £52 million release clause on his head last year.

However, the financial implications of the COVID-19 pandemic mean the Liga NOS giants could accept an offer as low as £20 million.

That could be too good an opportunity to turn down, if Edu really is as keen as he sounds to sign Tomás.

Let’s see what the Arsenal fans have been saying about The Sun‘s report…
