Kevin Campbell has claimed that there is ‘no way’ that Granit Xhaka is the ‘main man’ at Arsenal, even though he thinks he is, as he told the Highbury Squad.

The 28-year-old is one of the senior players in the Arsenal dressing room now and he has been at the club for over five years.

Despite that experience, Xhaka still got himself sent off during his side’s 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City last time out.

It now means that the aggressive-natured midfielder will be absent for the next three games for the Gunners.

Campbell thinks that Xhaka’s absence means that this is the ideal chance for Thomas Partey and the new boy, Albert Sambi Lokonga, to form a strong partnership in the middle of the park.

“He thinks he is the main man,” said Campbell. “He is not! He is not the main man.

“No way, shape or form. But he thinks he is. And now, there are three games for Lokonga and Partey to form a partnership in that midfield of significance and note.

“So, I don’t think the club would have to say too much. I think he would be wanting out, just like he got sent off against Manchester City. I think he will want to bail (in January) because he would want to go somewhere and play.

“And maybe, it might be to Roma!”

It’s fair to say that Xhaka will never be a popular figure at Arsenal and it’s a surprise that he is still at the club.

There was heavy talk during the recently-concluded summer transfer window of him moving on.

But, in the end, he stayed put and penned down a new contract, make of that what you will.

And whilst Xhaka gets a lot of the headlines, it’s not just him who is the issue, there are several other players, and those sitting higher up in the tree, who need to head for the exit door.
